A Reimagined Infill

A Reimagined Infill

Contemporary Project | Minneapolis, Minnesota
One homeowner favored traditional design while the other preferred contemporary. Peterssen/Keller focused on aspects of both perspectives, creating an open floor plan with multiple gathering spaces. VistaLuxe® Collection windows & doors integrated naturally into the organic design.
As designers, we appreciate the way Kolbe's VistaLuxe® windows and sliding doors integrated naturally into our organic modern design.

When the clients found a narrow site with incredible west-facing views of Lake Bde Maka Ska, they commissioned Peterssen/Keller Architecture to replace the existing smaller, old structure with a new home. As so often happens with design projects, the couple had different architectural sensibilities: one favored traditional design while the other prefers a modern aesthetic. They agreed that the home should have a visual connection to the lake and wanted a casual, efficient, open floor plan with multiple gathering spaces.

The resulting design expertly utilized layering, scale, and natural materials to give the home a fresh, modern spirit while also relating to the neighboring homes and maintaining a connection to the street. A dramatic palette of natural materials like Fond du Lac limestone, white stained cedar, walnut cabinetry, and blackened steel shelving creates is featured throughout the home. An innovative Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU), one of the first in Minneapolis, is also accommodated on this narrow urban lot.
