Glass technology continues to meet ever more stringent levels of energy efficiency. Below are basic definitions of various glass industry terms and how they influence the overall efficiency of a window or door unit. Double Pane Glass
Most Kolbe products have double pane, insulating glass units with LoE coatings and Thermo-Edge, stainless steel spacer bars. This achieves excellent energy efficiency across various climate zones, and helps many Kolbe products meet or exceed ENERGY STAR® guidelines.
Impact Glass
Impact glass helps withstand harsh environmental conditions, especially in coastal regions. When combined with impact performance upgrades, such as K-Force®, these products offer the highest level of security.
Laminated Glass
When the weather turns frigid, LoE-180 glass is the perfect cold remedy. It keeps homes warmer and more comfortable by blocking heat loss to the outside and letting the sun’s heat stream in to increase solar heat gain.
LoE-180
When the weather turns frigid, glass with LoE-180 coating is the perfect cold remedy. It keeps homes warmer and more comfortable by blocking heat loss to the outside and letting the sun's heat in.
LoE²-270
In summer, LoE²-270 glass rejects the sun’s heat and damaging UV rays, while in winter it reflects heat back into the room, delivering year-round comfort in most climates. Along with low solar heat gain, it offers a high level of clarity and visibility.
LoE³-340
LoE3-340 is a tinted glass recommended for warm climates that achieves solar control over a wide range of the spectrum, while also helping to reduce glare.
LoE³-366
LoE3-366 offers an ideal balance of solar control and high visibility by blocking 95% of UV rays while maintaining the interior temperature.
Tempered Glass
Tempered glass is standard in Kolbe doors to address safety concerns. It is also available in window units to meet specific building codes.
ThermaPlus Coating
ThermaPlus LoE is an additional interior coating applied to help meet the strictest energy requirements and provide protection against heat loss and UV damage.
Triple Pane Glass
Triple pane glass provides a greater energy performing window that keeps indoor air warm and comfortable, prevents heat loss and lowers your heating bills. It is constructed with three panes of glass, Thermo-Edge spacer bars and is available with the LoE coatings that best suit your needs.
LoE insulating glass with a stainless steel spacer bar carries a 20-year warranty. Not all glass options listed have the same glass warranty. Please contact your supplier for details.
